Case Study

Kaimana Hila

As a private consulting firm committed to special projects for the greater good and government/military contracts, Kaimana Hila's mission is to improve communities and better the future of Hawaii. Named after Senator Inouye's favorite song and as a reminder that he was "home" with Diamond Head in view, Kaimana Hila strives to perpetuate the Senator's legacy.

Identity Development

Eleven Past Studios was tasked with developing an identity that represented the culture of the brand.

Branding with Cultural Relevance

Multiple angles were explored, from symbols representing Diamond Head like the Japanese White Eye bird, or "Le´ahi," the brow of the tuna, also referred as the "wreath of fire," to ties to the famous song and its references to water lilies. Other concepts included origami shapes and folds to represent the community joining as one to solve problems, pathways to represent forward thinking and progress, and finally birds soaring over the ocean as they return home. The selected logo symbolized leaving the island to explore other world cultures, views and beliefs and taking back what was learned and applying it back home.

Colors and Palette

After the Logo development stage, strong, bold colors were selected and applied to the brand's new collateral.

New Collateral

New Letterhead, envelope design and business cards.

Notecards and E-Signature

Notecards and envelopes were designed and a new E-Signature was created using the brand's new logo.
